Are you looking for an accurate and up-to-date Kurdistan map with all the usual information and details about a country that most maps show? The fact is that you will most probably not be able to find an official one that includes all the regions where the Kurds live. As a matter of fact, we are a nation that does not have a clearly defined area of land or clearly set borders, and that is why there are several maps of Kurdistan showing the area as it was in ancient times, as it was several centuries ago, as its different parts are today, or as we believe our country should be shown on a map.

We often hear people referring to Kurdistan as a “stateless nation” and we really feel bitter about it, because, despite our own differences, we all share the same love and the same pride of being Kurds. Over the centuries we have very often fought innumerable fights to defend our borders and our right to have our own land where we would be able to spend our lives in peace and unity. For us, our Kurdistan is not made up of Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian or Turkish Kurdistan. It’s made up of all the land where Kurds live – wherever that land is and in whatever country it belongs.

With the recent news of the victorious fights of our brave Peshmerga army spreading all over the world, there are millions of people who search the Internet for more information about who the Kurds are, where their country is, their history, customs, or even Kurdistan weather. As the old saying goes “every cloud has a silver lining” and the fact that so many people all over the globe have now learned about our struggles has encouraged us to continue doing our best for our country and its future.

Kurdistan Does Exist

The most known Kurdistan map, and the one you will easily find when searching online, is the map of the Kurdish Region in the north of Iraq. This is our own part of Kurdistan and the region which enjoys the results of a flourishing economy and an open society with full protection of the human rights. It is also the region which attracts a large number of visitors every year mainly because of the International Airports of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and the excellent tourism infrastructure available in most of the cities and towns of the region.

On the other hand, maps of the Kurdish-inhabited provinces in Turkey, Syria and Iran are not usually referred to as parts of a Greater Kurdistan but as national parts of the country they belong to, even though the majority of the population in these areas is of Kurdish origin.

So, don’t be confused if you cannot easily find an official Kurdistan map. All the maps available online are different versions of our nation, but we always hope that in the future all world maps will depict an independent Kurdistan, which has been the dream of each and every one of us for so many years.
