Kurdistan Careers Recruitment and Training Fair 2014

For the 3rd consecutive year, the organizers of the Kurdistan Careers Fair 2014 held the event on the 16th and 17th of September at the Saad Abdullah Palace Conference Center in Gulan Street.

The Fair was organized by Podium Solutions and was first held in Erbil, the Kurdistan capital, in 2012. Its aim was to bridge the employment gap in Kurdistan and that was the reason why it was so positively accepted both by professionals looking for jobs in Erbil, or in the other Kurdish cities, and by companies and employers looking for the right staff for their businesses.

Over the past two years, 2557 jobseekers were able to find the right employment according to their skills and qualifications while 67 employers hired the right staff to fill their vacancies. At the same time, training providers and industry experts had the chance to meet people who wanted to enhance their skills or get informed about the different industry sectors and the opportunities they offer.

The Kurdistan Careers Fair is an innovative event that is fully endorsed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) as it promotes employment in the private sector and gives jobseekers the opportunity to have a direct contact with employers, something that promotes transparency in the job market. Moreover, the Careers Fair offers several discussion panels which attract young people, especially university students, who want a first contact with the job market or wish to get hired for the first time.

The 2nd Kurdistan Careers Fair in 2013 was honored by the presence of the Kurdish Prime Minister Mr. Nechirvan Barzani who opened the Fair with a welcoming speech. The KRG supports such events in order to promote employment in the private sector as it is not possible for the public sector to employ all jobseekers and university graduates. With the direct contact between jobseekers and employers in the private sector, young people are able to get their first job based on their skills, personality and enthusiasm.

The booming Kurdistan economy promises job opportunities not only in the capital, Erbil, but also in the other two Kurdish governorates of Sulaymaniyah and Duhok.
